WE’RE NOT YOUR TYPICAL COUPLE
At our age, you can imagine the looks we get when we tell someone we have been dating for seven years. In fact, we bet you can even guess the first question people ask us after they find out we have been dating for so long (hint: it involves spending thousands of dollars and a shiny ring).
But in all honesty, we try not to spend our time planning for the future. Instead, we prefer to focus on the present. However, to really understand our relationship it is a good idea to have an understanding of our past. This page is dedicated to the first seven years of our relationship.
GRADUATION FROM PENN STATE UNIVERSITY
MAY 9, 2015
Graduation marks the first day of our gap year and the official “start” of Two Sided Travels. We have learned a lot during our time at Penn State. Brad is graduating with a degree in Advertising, Leslie, a Bachelor of Design. We thought there was no better way to put our skills to the test than to run this blog!
Seeya later Penn State!
SHACKING UP IN CHICAGO
If it were up to us, we would have spent our summer in New York City. With countless opportunities in the advertising/graphic design industry, New York would have been a no brainer. Luckily for us, the decision was out of our hands.
Brad was nominated by one of his advertising professors for the Vance and Betty Lee Stickell Internship program, which is awarded to fifteen students nationally each year. Once selected he was placed in an internship at Leo Burnett in Chicago.
We are sure a summer in New York would have been a sweet deal, however with the benefit of hindsight we wouldn’t have gone anywhere but Chicago.

FIRST TIME ATTENDING THE SAME SCHOOL IN 10 YEARS
We love traveling and all, but driving 80 miles on the interstate to visit each other got old fast, not to mention the 4,000+ miles Leslie flew to meet Brad while he was abroad. A 10 minute walk to each other’s apartments was well worth the wait. Downtown State College, PA was our new home.
TIME TO TRY LONG-DISTANCE
Almost 2 years into college, Brad’s desire to travel again was at an all time high. He decided to study abroad for a semester in Florence, Italy. Leslie continued to build her portfolio at school and was able to fly out over spring break to meet him in Nice, France. This was the first time we traveled somewhere internationally, just the two of us.
WE ARE…PENN STATE (STUDENTS)
Even though we both made the decision to attend the Pennsylvania State University, fate would once again keep us separated. While Leslie was accepted to Penn State University Park (main campus), Brad was deferred to Penn State Altoona (branch campus). Separated by forty miles of Interstate 99, we were forced to spend our weekdays apart (first world probs).
Every Penn Stater has to take a photo at the Lion Shrine!
OUR FIRST INTERNATIONAL TRIP TOGETHER
Fast forward 3 years and you would find us in Venice, walking up and down the canals with bellinis in hand. For 10 days during the summer after high school graduation, Brad, Leslie, and her family traveled throughout Italy visiting Venice, Florence, and Rome.
You could say this is the trip that started it all. Getting out of our comfort zone (the charming suburb of West Chester, PA) made us realize there was so much more to see and experience. That summer we learned a lot about ourselves and how easily we traveled together, exploring cities both hand-in-hand and solo.

“WANNA MAKE US OFFICIAL?”
JUNE 14, 2008
At the wee age of 15, Brad and Leslie started hanging out. We enjoyed a good game of laser tag and the occasional Wegman’s Cafe date. One night we went to see a movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to be exact. The movie was pretty bad, but as the credits began to roll Brad turned to Leslie and asked, “Wanna make us official”? She laughed and shook her head yes. The answer was never verbalized, so are we actually a thing?
Prior to studying at Penn State together, we attended different middle and high schools. However, before our middle school days we both went to Glen Acres Elementary school. Not only were we classmates in 4th grade, but we were also classmates in kindergarten! Can you find us in our kindergarten class photo? Hint: Look for the subtle clue that highlights where we are!
