It’s hard to believe we’ve been on the road for 23 days already! In that time frame we have spent 10 days driving down the east coast, stopping in Raleigh (NC), Charleston (SC), and Orlando (FL). Then we spent 7 days hanging out in Ft. Lauderdale (FL) and the surrounding area.

Next we decided to ditch the car and fly to New Orleans (LA) for 4 nights. After flying back to Ft. Lauderdale, we spent 2 days shaking off the jet lag and packing our things. Now we are finally on the road again, in order to make it home in time for Thanksgiving. But the trip isn’t over yet, as we plan to stop in three cities as we drive north along the east coast!

During part 2 of our East Coast Road Trip from Ft. Lauderdale, we stopped in Savannah, Wilmington, and Richmond, before getting home to West Chester

First Stop: Savannah, Georgia (November 17 – November 20)

Yesterday we drove 465 miles from Ft. Lauderdale to Savannah, Georgia. It took us seven and a half hours with a few pit stops, but we made it to our accommodation just as the sun set. While we are in Savannah we will be staying at an apartment we rented on Airbnb (this one to be specific).

We haven’t really decided what we will do while we are here, but looking at the weather we will most likely spend most of our time indoors. One thing that is high on Leslie’s list is the Savannah College of Art & Design Museum, so we will probably start there.

Second Stop: Wilmington, North Carolina (November 20 – November 22)

On Friday we will hit the road again, this time driving 300 miles to Wilmington, North Carolina. We chose Wilmington for two reasons: first, because we have never been there before and second, because it’s perfectly located to break up the rest of the drive home. For accommodation we will stay with a host we found on Couchsurfing.

Leslie and I knew it was going to be hard to drive back home after spending the past two weeks in Florida and Louisiana. Even though it isn’t supposed to rain in Wilmington, the temperature is going to drop another 10 degrees. However, as long as it isn’t raining we plan on spending most of our time outdoors (the temperature is only going to continue to drop for us over the next month).

After spending the weekend in Wilmington, Brad and I will leave on Sunday for Richmond, Virginia. We saved Richmond for last because not only is it 200 miles away from home, but also because I have family living outside of the city. My dad’s Aunt Linda and her husband Doug were kind enough to let us stay at their house for two nights before we will all drive to West Chester for Thanksgiving dinner

As of right now it looks like we will have sunny skies and temperatures in the 40’s during our time in Richmond. Regardless of the chilly weather, it will be great to catch up with family that I haven’t seen in over a year and of course see a few sights in Richmond before heading home.
